product review: carol's daughter

Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Shampoo
Ingredients:  Water, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG-2 Cocamide, Fragrance, Aloe Leaf Juice, Calendula, Citric Acid, Glycerin, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Lavender, Melilotus Extract, PEG-150 Distearate, PEG-200 Hydrogenated Glyceryl Palmate, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Quat-10, Quat-7, Potassium Cocoate, Rosa Canina Extract, Rosemary Extract, Sage Extract, Nettle Extract, Caprylyl Glycol, Hexylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Caramel.

Verdict:  Like any typical shampoo, it left my hair a tangled, knotted mess.  The scent is ok.  Perfume-y.  However, it doesn't smell much like vanilla.  I will not repurchase this shampoo...and I'm on the fence as to whether I'll even finish the sample size I purchased.  Hopefully, diluting the remaining poo with water will make it mild enough to finish the container.

Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Leave In Conditioner
Ingredients:   Water (Aqua), Polysorbate 80, Glycerin, Panthenol (Pro-vitamin B5), Sodium Hyaluronate, Sodium PCA, Butylene Glycol, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower/Leaf Stem, Lonicera Caprifolium (Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Lonicera Japonica (Japanese Honeysuckle) Flower Extract, Sage Extract, Calendula Extract, Wheat Protein, Wheat Starch, Corn Starch, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, Caramel, Fragrance.

Verdict:  This actually makes my hair shiny.  Then that's what humectants are supposed to do.  I only use it to refresh my hair when it has product on it from the day before.  I don't like to put a high concentration of humectants on naked hair.  That either makes my hair sticky or makes it dry out.  Once I used this leave-in for a twist out on two day old hair.  I liked that it made my hair shiny, but it didn't provide much fullness.  The container lasts longer when diluted with water 50% and the contents aren't as sticky.  It smells nice, but it doesn't smell like vanilla.  I purchased the sample to leave at the office...for those rare occasions when I need to refresh or restyle a failed hairdo.  I don't expect that I will purchase this leave in again.  I'm not a fan of the ingredients or the scent.

Carol's Daughter Black Vanilla Moisture & Shine Pure Hair Oil
Ingredients:  Zea Mays (Corn) Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Calendula Officianalis Flower Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Fragrance (Parfum)

Verdict:  This oil blend works as well as any oil blend.  It smells pretty, but it doesn't smell like vanilla.  GMO (if it doesn't say organic, it's GMO) corn oil doesn't seem like the most superb ingredient, but the combination of oils somehow manage to make my hair shine.  I used this when I'm refreshing my hair, as a sealant or as a hot oil treatment.  I will repurchase on super sale because, although I think it's overpriced, it does do what I expect a hair oil to do.

Lisa's Hair Elixir
Ingredients:  Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Ocimum Basilicum (Basil) Oil,Cinnamomum Camphora (Camphor) Oil, Thuja Occidentalis (Cedar Leaf) Leaf Oil, Mentha Arvensis (Cornmint) Leaf Oil, Eucalyptus Globulus (Eucalyptus) Oil, Guaiacum Officinalis Guiacwood) Oil, Gurjon Balsam Oil

Verdict:  I used this as a hot oil treatment.  It was tingly, but, otherwise, unimpressive.  I didn't notice an improvement in the moisture content or retention of my hair.  I can't remember what this product promised to do and I can't remember whether or not it did anything special. I will not repurchase this product.

Tui Color Care Moisturizing Hair Oil
Ingredients:  Zea Mays (Corn) Oil, Fragrance (Parfum), Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract

Verdict:  I used this oil when refreshing my hair, for hot oil treatments and softening gel cast.  It's perfume-y, but I like that it has a mild fragrance.  The fragrance isn't bad, but it's also not my  favorite.  I prefer a more natural or musky-y scent.  Even still, the corn oil blend leaves my hair shiny when I used it as a finisher.  I'll repurchase on a super sale because it does what I expect a hair oil to do and that's leave my hair shiny.

Hair Balm
Ingredients: Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Zea Mays (Corn) Oil, Beeswax, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond Oil), Butyrospermum Parkil (Shea Butter) Fruit, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Fragrance (Parfum), Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Oil, Annatto Seed.

Verdict:   I used this balm when refreshing my hair.   It has an oily consistency and blends easily into my hair.  It makes my hair shiny and locks in moisture.  The scent is almost non-existent; so, I added a little of the Tui oil for fragrance.  I won't repurchase this balm because I will no longer purchase products with wax in the top five ingredients.  I don't like that I feel I need to wash out waxes with shampoo.

Ecstasy Body Butter
Ingredients:  Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Beeswax, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Fragrance (Parfum), Alkana Tinctoria Root, Annatto Seed, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Citrus Medica Limonum (Lemon) Peel Oil

Verdict:    I hate everything about this butter.  It's both oily and waxy and smells putrid and strong like incense and weed.
